Artist sheet complete!

My salvador dali mood board is finished, I added orange and yellow to the white background as I feel he uses these colours the most, also it contrasts really well against the black writing to make it stand out.

after I did a few samples on newsprint I decided to do a few on card so I could add them to my work.. This was the outcome!

These first two are produced by the basic stencil print I explained in my first post

Where as this one was created by leaving the stencil in the ink and putting news print over so that the ink would go everywhere apart from where the stencil was. I personally like this the best!

Oil base ink is used 

First you have to cut out plastic stencils in the design you wish to print

Then you have to roll the ink over your plastic design 

Then put newsprint over the top then use a clean roller and roll over the newsprint then you have your completed stencil print!

Today Lena showed me how to stencil print, which is by far the most enjoyable printing I've done.. I decided to base my work around our current project so that I could add what i had learnt to my work!

When I saw the technique Lena used I decided to do my stencils to fit in with William Morris for my artist sheets

William Morris

It's incomplete! But I have learnt more about Morris' work and have grown to like him! His leaves and flowers are what he draws the most and it's what I like the most, his detail and colour are amazing. I've tried to produce the same effect by starting to scratch into my paint on the flowers.

What I've done so far! Background needs finishing and a few more details added but so far I'm happy with it and have learnt which peices of Dalis work I would like to work more into, which has given me ideas for my final peice! 

William Morris project

In this project we have to look at William Morris and his arts and craft movement which we then mix with another artist of our choice to create a final peice either wallpaper or canvas which could well end up in the civic Barnsley! 

I'm not too fond of William Morris, I think he's an amazing artist and his style is unique for his time but it's not my style or what I like personally, so I have chosen salvador dali as my other artist to add more colour and randomness which is more what I like to see in my work! Can't wait to see the outcome... 

Lino process

A5 peice of Lino, get a cutting board and a gouge to cut your design into it 

Once completed just put water base ink on with roller then get your paper put the Lino and paper under roller ready to produce your print. 

Although I did make the mistake of doing my words not back to front they should of been back to front so when the print was done it would of been the right way round to read..

Etching process ( pictures )

Vim cleaner

Putting hard ground on after it's been put on heat plate 

Put on hot plate to dry and heat up

Then into the acid tray 

Wash off hard ground 

Roll ink on ready to print 

Put under roller to produce your print 

Stretch paper before you print

To etch we had to Get an a5 peice of zink and file the edges 

Clean with vim

Put braso on

Clean again with vim, back it with sticky back paper

Put on on hot plate to dry and heat up

Once heated,apply hard ground with a roller not too thick. 

Making sure it was a nice golden brown colour not black

Etch our design on with an etching needle

Once we etched it went into the 10% acid tray whilst waiting rock the tray to prevent bubbles we had to keep checking our work to feel a step where the acid had eaten into the metal. ( 15 minutes approx ) 

Once we thought it was ready we took it out and put it in the water tray to rinse 

Then take out and put turp on a peice of cloth and clean it till all the ground was off

Wash with vim again then we were ready to make our etching prints 

Roll ink on or you can either use oil paint then put under roller with your stretched paper to produce the print ! 

Lino gone wrong!🙈

I was happy with my Lino cut design and enjoyed the process I found it both easy and difficult as sometimes I went through and made holes because of cutting too deep but mostly I found it easy to achieve what I was looking for. 

When it was completed I was then ready to print I rolled the paint on and put it under the wrong roller wheel, which led it to end up like this. At least next time I know which one is the right roller and I defiantley won't be making the same mistake twice and I also know not to cut too deep so my next one won't have holes or be demolished!

I started off drawing a design on an a5 peice of white paper, using only black pen. swapping and changing the pen size gives thicker and thinner lines to create different textures and patterns, also making sure i barely left any negative space. I was pleased with my design and couldn't wait to see the turn out..

After my design was complete and I was happy with it i then took the design to the photo copier where I got it copied onto an a4 peice of tracing paper, it was then ready to be put on a screen.

Blek le rat artist research

I chose blek le rat because he is a French street artist who specialises in graffiti and stencil work. His artwork is all over the streets of France which I thought fitted in with Tour de France because the bikers will pass his work. Also I love his style and have enjoyed using him as inspiration in my own work. To produce his spray paint effect I used watercolours , bold black and white acrylic paint , charcoal and chalk which I think gives it the best spray paint effect seems as I couldn't use actual spray paint.

To make this we had to cut an A5 size peice of card out then using cardboard, card, paper, crinkled paper and string we then glued them on with pva glue in the pattern of our design. Mine being a bike frame I chose to apply in paper then bike parts in string and cardboard to give a different texture affect.. Then we had to cover in varnish and wait for it to dry. This is mine ready to be used to print ..

To make paper we had trays full of water and paper shreddings which we then put our bases into. Because of the holes it drained the water leaving just paper on top. We then tipped it onto our cloth and left to dry, a week later we had the results of dry paper so we peeled it away from the cloth making a card type paper.
